Context

The end goal was the production of a well-designed, beautifully-crafted step-by-step process. Through strategic layout, composition, and design choices, the final manual was supposed to provide the reader all of the necessary information to successfully follow steps to a final outcome. Legibility and readability were key.

Design Process

• Walk through the steps of restringing a guitar
• Create a key list of steps through the process
• Take pictures of the guitar at these steps
• Illustrate the guitar in Illustrator
• Sketch page layouts
• Implement sketches in Indesign
• Craft clear copy for each step
• Complete booklet

Design Decisions

A strong use of the grid was used in order to help the reader follow the steps in the correct order. The use of the color green for the background for the steps and the directional elements of the illustration help to link the two together.
