Context

The main goals of this project were to develop a mark that fits into an existing symbol system, to understand the role of symbol systems and the process of developing any kind of simplified mark, and to create a process booklet to document the progress.

Design Process

• Research general symbol systems
  and the London 2012 symbol system
• Choose new symbol to add into the system
• Identify characteristics of the logosystem
• Sketch thumbnail ideas
• Refine thumbnails into sketches
• Refine sketches into Illustrator
• Refine best symbolform
• Ideate, sketch, and layout booklet
• Refine into InDesign
• Completion

Design Decisions

The golf symbol of the subject swinging a driver mid-swing was chosen because the symbol system included figures that were mid-swing. For the booklet, the colors of the 2012 olympics were used in order to keep the style consistent.
